OLLI-UO: The Fallacy of the Alpha Male - Why Humans Are Not Chimpanzees
Explore the social intricacies that connect us with our primate counterparts.
A recording of this presentation will be available. A link to the recording will be posted here.
Join Dr. Michel Waller for a look at the intriguing parallels between non-human primate social hierarchies and our own human dynamics. Until recently, terms like "alpha" and "beta" were confined to the realm of non-human animals, describing their societal roles within rigid hierarchies. Dr. Waller delves into the recent shift that associates these terms with males showcasing masculine traits, leadership qualities, and sexual prowess. But here's the question: Is this application truly fitting? Challenge your preconceptions and reconsider the appropriateness of these terms in our understanding of human social dynamics.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Dr. Michel Waller, with a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Oregon, brings over 20 years of extensive experience in researching and teaching in the field of primates. His field studies include chimpanzee/human interactions in Senegal and bonobo/human interactions in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. Dr. Waller studies primate socioecology and behavior to better understand the spectrum of factors that have shaped early human evolution. His research has focused on ranging behavior, territoriality, aggression, and tolerance. Dr. Waller is currently an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Central Oregon Community College.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oregon (OLLI-UO) in Central Oregon invites community members to participate in our Friday Talks in partnership with the Deschutes Public Library. OLLI-UO is an intellectual and social community of engaged adult learners, connecting members to university faculty and professionals in respective fields. A six-month or yearlong membership allows participation in a variety of lectures, courses, peer-led study and discussion groups, educational tours, field trips, and social events.

Tribal/Shared History: Reflection & Storytelling
I beg to differ just look at maxine waters for example🤣
You are the misinformation garbage.A bigfoot could kiss you in the mouth, and you would say it was a baby bullbat!
The dog groaning when not pet is the most relatable thing ever lol
That guy is so annoying
This event truly enriched my life and introduced me to a new favorite author. Having just finished the book my heart is full of warmth. Thank you for these events!❤️
Why is it called Los Ninos Santos?
too bad about Pilot Butte Inn. It would be so cool to have that today, but that’s how history goes.
These are fantastic. Thanks for doing these. Do you still have the 20s thru 40s uploaded? I can’t find them on your channel. Thanks!
This was awesome! Thanks for taking the time to organize this information and present on it.
Katastrofa
Sasquatch confirmed ✨️ t h i c c✨️
Awesome videos Cliff yeah you could totally see the videos are real
Good idea about the wheelbarrow cliff 👍💪👍👍👍
I remember my parents dancing to this wow great song
Interesting to hear him say he doesn’t think they have any supernatural gifts (ie. invisibility or cloaking etc)
Coyote won that race fair and square. Hairy Man is just a big blubbering crybaby who has bad posture and can't run faster than a dude who just got a vasectomy.
☕️🙏🥰
Sasquatch is translated to 'Wild man of the forest". The domesticated version would be named 'tame man of the forest' or "Circusquatch". 😆
IT WAS A BOY!!??? Squatch wants to be more gender-specific. His pronouns are now., Regular Foot..,PoliteSquatch.., Admirable Snowman and Cologne Ape. 🤔😆😃
thank you
I danced the hustle when I was 2nd year high school 1972 and that’s not way.
I am proud of you your books are amazing
Hello can a visitor get library card
that not the LATIN HUSTLE it more like the BUS STOP I know am Puerto Rican from the Bronx
What about guy that says he made the suit for Patterson?? And the guy who admitted to wearing it! He was paid $1000 to do it! None of it matters because you WANT to believe! Even the rhe proof against is far stronger! Unbelievable
Perfect for beginners! Understanding the basics is key to mastering any sport. With this video and my Oliver-Sport paddle, IM READY !!!!!!
It was mislabeled (line dance) The Hustle. That SNF line dance was called the bus stop. Your line dance missing some steps.
BLAH BLAH BLAH ..🥱...Pure b.s. ..Show us a captured "sasquatch" or the dead body....until then it's all fantasy and storytelling...🤣🤣
I have hunted the entire state of Oregon. I have packed into areas with horses, where you never see another human. And in 48 years of hunting, I have NEVER seen a Bigfoot! Neither has anyone hunting with me. And we are descented, using "Cow Elk in Heat " cover scent , and wearing full Camouflage clothing. If I am good enough to have Elk walk by me at 3 yards and not know I am hidden next to a bush and tree, then I am sure we would have been able to see a Bigfoot without him knowing we were even there. But NOPE! NONE of my hunting buddies or any other hunters we have met, have ever seen a Bigfoot. And we all say the same thing, if we ran across one, it would be dead! And we would be rich and famous for bringing in REAL PHYSICAL, TANGIBLE, NON DISPUTABLE PROOF!!!! But there is not one person on this planet who has EVER brought in real proof. No hair, no blood, no bones, no skeletons, nothing at all!! So they make all these fake shows that claim they have positive proof, but if the news channels try to investigate and have real scientists ready to evaluate and test any evidence, nothing happens! All of a sudden they do not talk to the REAL news or even come up with this so called real physical proof! So if all these shows always see and no how to find all these Bigfoot, how come they can never seem to be able to find any when our local and national news crews go out with them?
The fact that they have been able to avoid human contact is proof they are highly intelligent.
Garbage! Evolution is a fairytale for grown ups. Bigfoot isn’t a cross between humans and man. They were created by something. 000000 proof of macro evolution to where one species hanged into another species like biological text books try to make us believe.
Sometimes I wonder where I am😊 there I am😂😂😂
I am absolutely positive Big Foot exists. There was one that lived in the White House with its husband, and another one in Georgia that ran for Governor twice and lost.
I don't think all Sasquatch/Bigfoot are animal's, I think some may act like animal's for some time to fool humans but I actually think these are a type of people like us Just they know what we are like and how trigger happy some people can be and have been seen white men crossed the seas and so they hide for the most part I think that's why we can hear about encounters were they are aggressive and seem beastly and others were the actually befriend a family and that can last generations and others were they just seem curious about us and peek in windows and all the other types of encounters in between I think they may even have different races like humans do and that's why they can look so different to each other in different places, if you know what I mean
Nice "Hitler bob"
cliff has been b.s ing people for many years..0 conclusive evidence!!!....his t.v. show was a farce
That was excellent. Thanks.
Paige was alive in the 70s!? No way!!! Thank you for a fun video ladies 💄
very good presentation. in my opinion the Paterson footage is all the evidence we need to prove the existence of sasquash when you add the footprints and eyewitness testimonies. ridicule seems to be the only defense against its existence.
Awesome
Property owners in Oregon know there's *no bite, no consequences for illegal and even criminal behaviors.* They have no reason to alter their behavior or adhere to state, county and municipal laws. They can do whatever they want anytime they want and there's *no resources* for tenants, so tenants suffer emotional and financial trauma, harm and loss.
Great job Sir!
There not animals they are human hybrids.
And yet, with all of this, absolutely NO definitive evidence... ever, EVER. Don't get me wrong, I WANT to have them real, but with so much "research," expeditions, people traipsing through the wilds, nothing. Nada. Nyet.
Great evidence such as that shown here has made me a vehement non-believer.
do you eat orphans?
Wow! I haven't looked at this video in years! Thank you for the kind comments, this was an impromptu video my local library asked me to do during COVID so people could learn the "Hustle" line dance. I am a dance instructor but not a professional dancer with a sound studio and professional backup dancers. This was in the beginning of COVID before we had more tools for online classes for better sound. I talked my sister and husband into doing this with me for support. This is the only video that I've put on You Tube and I can't believe some of the comments are so rude. We were just having fun and putting something out there for our local library...jeez! I'm glad some people can be nice and enjoyed themselves 😄
Sorry Cliff. And with "All Due RESPECT". 25 : 15 is almost certainly a bird. OWL? Possibly in flight. Head at top, Tail feathers at bottom and wings at the sides, (Edit-add) Thx for the detailed explanation of the "metatarsal break". A feature of the foot which many commenters to BF Videos over use as if they grew up knowing all about the metatarsal break since they were 3 years old.
I think they’re endangered, the government knows this, and instead of going through the hassle of giving them rights, protection, and the freedom to keep chopping down habitat and forested areas. And because there are such few numbers, I’ve heard 1,500-5000 left all over the world. They live in families and small groups; very similar to humans and gorillas, but they’re more spaced and spread out. Making their numbers slow to climb, and more likely to die out before the “government can help save them…” Cause they’re just too powerful for us to overpower, and would pose a real problem in detaining them. And they aren’t like Bears you can just tranq and then throw it back in the woods…
Did he smell the butt crack cast? I wanna know…… 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😊😊
I think he did🙊
